Nepean Area Disabilities Organization (NADO) has been selected as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards 2024. NADO Disability Services is a registered NDIS provider and a not for profit, community-based charity that has supported people with disability, their families and carers in the Nepean and Blue Mountains region for over 40 years.The core mission of NADO is to provide support that responds to the needs and personal goals of people with disability, their families and carers within the context of their home, work and community.

NADO has evolved to become a leader in the disability sector offering a broad range of services including Accommodation, Community Day Programs, Children’s programs, Social Activity Groups for adults, NDIS Plan Management, Support Coordination and Team You – a 1:1 Support service. Additional business offerings include a Sensory Store and a Sensory Activity Centre called Share My Ability.

With over 650 participants registered at NADO, the organisation provides services to 15% of people living with an intellectual disability in the Nepean Blue Mountains region.

NADO firmly positions itself as the region’s largest and most comprehensive Registered NDIS Provider, with a strong reputation and authority in the local marketplace. Governed by a strong Board and Executive Team, the organisation has also seen significant, ongoing financial growth. 2023 earmarked a year of growth, impactful initiatives and steadfast employee commitment.

The organisational structure at NADO is traditionally classed and showcases the qualities of a passionate and highly dedicated leadership body. NADO’s Executive Team and Governance Board successfully safeguard and stabilise the organisation by upholding principles of integrity and fairness, ethical and responsible governance, loyalty to stakeholders, and the courage to innovate and advocate on behalf of those living with disabilities.

NADO’s organisational operations are implemented in strict accordance with the NDIS Practice Standards, which are overseen by the National Quality and Safeguards Commission. Each of the organisation’s services is quality-checked and verified against the body, further highlighting NADO’s stronghold within the disability sector.

NADO operates in an extensive regulatory environment under a range of legislative instruments, such as the Corporations Act, ASIC, Fair Work Act, WHS Act, NDIS Act, and others specific to disability services. The business also complies with the Australian Charities, Not-For-Profits Commission, and National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH) requirements. NADO is a Child-Related organisation. NADO staff are mandatory reporters trained in the signs of abuse.

A program of financial, NDIS, WHS, fire safety, internal auditing, and reporting ensures compliance with mandatory and best practice requirements. The organisation is accredited to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Quality Standards and the CHRC and is guided by SafeWork NSW, local Councils, the SCHADS Award, and the National Employment Standards.

NADO is committed to providing a safe work and service environment, a robust HR system that complies with NDIS Worker Screening requirements and conducts an effective complaints and incidents management process. NADO maintains membership in industry peak body associations such as National Disability Services, the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability, the Australian Human Resources Institute and the Australian Industry Group.

It’s clear that staff certification and accreditation within the NADO organisation are paramount. Staff qualifications include Cert III Individual Support, formal medication and epilepsy training, and Cert IV in Leadership and Management. The leadership teams within the organisation are also regularly subject to adherence to a comprehensive, internal performance appraisal system, MAPS (Motivate, Abilities, Plan, Support) evaluation.  

In 2023, NADO received The Voice Project’s ‘Best Workplace Award’, recognised for outstanding performance in work practices and employee engagement. NADO’s commitment to creating an empowered, cohesive professional environment demonstrates its core values of respect, teamwork, and inclusion. In the past year, the organisation also acquired the highly sought-after Great Place To Work Certification through a strong and impactful culture brief submission.
