The Schlam Head Office is located in Welshpool, approximately 9km from the Perth CBD, with its main manufacturing facilities located in Forrestfield and Waroona. With a workforce of 442 employees, you’ll find most of their maintenance people at work on heavy mining equipment across the Pilbara and the Goldfields.

The company started in 1996 as a problem-solving engineering business. Barry Schlam saw a need for high-quality precision welding and fabrication services in the South West. His son Ryan’s entrepreneurial spirit has driven the company into over 25 years of operation. Schlam started as a humble, family-run operation and now has become one of the leading mining services companies in Australia and, as of 2022, was proudly named the West Australian Employer of the Year.

Schlam is one of Australia’s largest privately owned mining services companies, and you’ll find their products and maintenance people at work across mines on six continents. Schlam aims to solve the maintenance and payload challenges that assist mining operations to be better tomorrow than it was today. Schlam help raise the bar by focusing on the three things that matter for equipment productivity: payload, people and engineering. Since Schlam’s inception 25 years ago, they have become a leading provider of diversified mining and engineering services. Thanks to its founders, Schlam has inherited an innovative mindset that ensured its growth beyond what most would think possible. The company has continued to go from strength to strength, largely due to dedicated staff and innovative ideas around doing business.

Schlam is a people business whose success depends on growing and supporting a high-quality, highly-capable workforce to deliver for its customers. Because of this, their purpose is to create the best possible environment for people to thrive. For people to thrive, they must be working in jobs they love, jobs they’re good at, and jobs where they can maximise their potential. That’s why Schlam works tirelessly to match the right people with opportunities. Focusing their business so heavily on their people, individual hopes and dreams, and how they look after and support them to succeed, ultimately, Schlam wants to become the best place to work in Australia.

Schlam continually strives to be an employer of choice. Schlam has assisted over 23 employees through its trade upgrade program, helped nine apprentices start their careers, opened 57 positions to skilled migrants, and employed over 45 women. Schlam also has a 96.4% retention rate, with 90% of their employees saying they would refer someone to work for Schlam.
