The Australian Business Award for Employer of Choice [EOC] recognises organisations that develop workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through established policies and practices which demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.
With a vision for Healthy People and Healthy Communities, Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network (the PHN) is a not-for-profit organisation predominantly funded by the Australian Government. The PHN works with healthcare providers across the Hunter, New England, and Central Coast regions to fund programs and services designed to improve the efficiency and quality of primary healthcare and positively impact Hunter, New England and Central Coast communities.
As an employer of choice, the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network (HNECC PHN) proudly serves as a home to exceptional talent within their region. The PHN recognises the challenges faced by primary care clinicians and providers across the region and is committed to working with stakeholders across the Hunter, New England and Central Coast regions to improve access to primary health care services.
At the core of the HNECC PHN’s success lies an unwavering commitment to outcomes and the strength of its people. United by a common goal to effect positive change in the lives of local communities, the PHN’s values are at the heart of the employee experience and are embodied by its people. Their passion for identifying and addressing the health needs in their communities is matched by their commitment to closing service gaps and ensuring equity in access.
In 2023, the HNECC PHN implemented a new strategic plan to set a clear purpose to increase the equity of access to primary care services. The organisation continuously builds exceptional capability, delivery, and culture, enabling the HNECC PHN to achieve exceptional leadership, performance, and world-class commissioning goals. To support this and maintain the HNECC PHN’s position as an employer of choice, the People and Culture team has developed a 2024 -2026 PHN Employer of Choice (EOC) strategy that maintains a commitment to curiously develop, grow, and evolve the workforce to reach its full potential.
The EOC strategy outlines how the HNECC PHN will leverage the talents and ambitions of its people to realise its strategic objectives. The four strategic pillars of the strategy align with the EOC criteria:
- Culture, leadership, and strategy.
- Education, training, and development.
- Performance, recognition, and remuneration; and
- Health, safety, and satisfaction.
The strategy provides clarity of purpose and a commitment to execute, allowing the PHN to truly measure and demonstrate success. The HNECC PHN has built and strengthened its capability to deliver while putting its people first. It presents outstanding results from the strategic plan that aligns with being an employer of choice.
