“Brisbane Airport Corporation is incredibly proud to be named an Employer of Choice for the second year in a row. It takes a real team effort to operate a major hub like Brisbane Airport, and our commitment is to ensure that everyone on our team feels valued and has a rewarding experience. We do this by offering an exciting and diverse work environment, great benefits, and a strong culture focussed on our core values of collaboration, communication, courage, and care. A career with us is an opportunity to be a part of something special, as we undergo our airport’s next great transformation, connecting the world and creating the future.”
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is the proud operator of Brisbane Airport (BNE), an award- winning Airport that connects communities, drives innovation and supports sustainable growth. BAC’s purpose is to deliver value to four bosses— employees, communities, customers and shareholders—and their vision is clear: Connect the World. Create the Future.
Together with the 20,000 people who work at BNE, BAC are building an Airport City that connects people, creates community, and fuels the economy. BNE contributes almost $5 billion annually to the economy, as Australia’s third busiest and most domestically connected airport, and over the next decade BAC will invest $5.6 billion to expand it, connecting communities and creating jobs.
From the hundreds of projects underway to the 2032 Olympic Games, BAC have an exciting future ahead—and understand that their employees are key to this future’s success. This diverse and talented group of almost 500 professionals who work for BAC shapes their unique culture and reputation, reflecting the dynamic nature of the aviation industry itself.
BAC seek to provide an engaging and interesting work environment that enables them to attract and retain new colleagues whose skills and drive will ensure continued success. BAC’s biggest priority is keeping their people safe and recognising that looking after their wellbeing includes giving them opportunities to thrive. And just as an airport is a meeting place for people of all backgrounds, they are committed to ensuring BAC reflects the diversity of their customers and communities.
To do this, BAC have a broad range of initiatives underway to engage their team and maintain a unique culture. This includes team strategy days, social events, regular all-staff forums, employee feedback opportunities, staff consultative groups, and much more. BAC also motivate their people through reward and incentive structures – from offering performance-based bonuses to all employees to a Long-Term Incentive Program and ongoing recognition for excellence.
As their results show, BAC is on the right path, and, in fact, their culture is the strongest it has ever been. According to BAC’s 2022 Employee Effectiveness Survey, conducted by the Korn Ferry Group, they had a 90% response rate and a rating in the global high-performance range for both employee engagement and employee enablement. BAC’s employees are engaged and committed, with 83% of employees stating that BAC motivates them to do more than what is required, which is 19% higher than industry standards.
Going back over the past five years, BAC has maintained employee engagement ratings over 75% while also significantly improving its enablement rating by 13%. This means that 65% of BAC employees are now deemed to be ‘most effective’ as defined by Korn Ferry, which is 8% higher than the high-performance organisation benchmark and 15% higher than the general industry benchmark. In addition, 89% of our workforce feels a sense of pride working for BAC, which is 14% higher than the industry benchmark.
BAC see this pride, every day, in the excellent work their team does and through recent awards including Best Airport (Australia/Pacific) at the 2022 Skytrax World Airport Awards, as well as being named in the Australian Employer of Choice at the 2023 HR Industry Awards and a Top 100 Employers for workplace practices for women as published by the Herald Sun. But we also understand that our success requires constant improvement, and we are committed to this journey—as we aspire to be one of the world’s top employers and deliver on our vision to connect the world and create the future.
