William Roberts Lawyers

William Roberts Lawyers has been recognised as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards 2016.
The Australian Business Award for Employer of Choice recognises organisations which have developed leading workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.

Established in 2005, William Roberts is a law firm specialising in dispute resolution, personal, commercial and property transactions. Over the last decade the firm has grown from a two-person business to supporting over 55 employees.

William Roberts has strived to adopt an inclusive, open door culture that’s supportive of its people through the promotion of trust, transparency and the provision of opportunities and rewards to high performing staff members. The firm places an emphasis on internal career progression, outlining frameworks and expectations to employees that are designed to foster growth and create pathways. As a part of this approach, the firm has invested in a series of forums, where high calibre business and political leaders share their experiences and network with staff members. This internal development is complemented by partnerships with Australian Universities and an affiliation with Melbourne Business School, where senior leaders are encouraged to upskill in preparation for internal promotion.

In addition, William Roberts maintains a ‘People Plan’, which is designed to complement the firm’s business strategy, supporting a focus on attraction, retention and engagement. This is achieved through flexible leave arrangements, coaching and mentorship programs, as well as employee assistance programs, which provide employees access to support mechanisms in confidential settings. This emphasis on employee health extends to discounted memberships to fitness classes, corporate massages, the provision of daily breakfasts and a partnership with Lifeline Australia to promote mental wellbeing across the firm. Engagement days and employee functions are also held to provide employees with an avenue for social interaction outside of a work environment.
