Glen Eira City Council
Glen Eira City Council has been recognised as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards 2016. The Australian Business Award for Employer of Choice recognises organisations which have developed leading workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.
Glen Eira have developed strategic partnerships with Swinburne University of Technology and Holmesglen TAFE to deliver tertiary training within their organisation. Over the past five years more than 100 staff have participated in the partnership programs, complimenting e-learning programs and regular leader meetings also provided by Glen Eira. These programs exist as a part of the Council’s corporate training calendar, which is developed annually and reflects the diversity of the services provided by the Council. All staff are encouraged to participate, with learning opportunities offered in a range of methods.
Glen Eira seeks to actively and regularly engage with its employees, keeping them informed with news and events through regular correspondence from management as well as maintaining an open dialogue for feedback. Performance reviews are conducted annually and staff are rewarded through a dedicated program that sees recognised employees presented with awards and given gifts.
As part of their enterprise bargain agreement Glen Eira offers flexible work and leave arrangements for all employees, including Job Share, paid emergency leave and the ability to purchase additional leave. Hours of work can often be arranged so staff can share family responsibilities and team meetings are also scheduled in recognition of these needs. Working from home is also accessible to staff where applicable.
Additionally, Glen Eira is also firmly committed to the health and safety of its employees, developing the ‘BEE WELL’ program which organises health and safety related programs and initiatives throughout Council. This program is promulgated from the moment of induction and contributes towards Council’s high satisfaction rate of 92%.
