Distribution Central

Distribution Central has been recognised as an Employer of Choice in The Australian Business Awards 2016. The Australian Business Award for Employer of Choice recognises organisations which have developed leading workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.

Distribution Central (DC) was established in 2004 and is a leader in digital distribution and a provider of specialised, technical-service orientated distribution and channel support for contemporary IT products. DC places significant emphasis on company culture and recruitment. They aim to provide staff with the best environment, support and training so they are able to deliver customer success.

DC’s vision is to create a culture where employees are all contributors to the company’s strategic objectives and initiatives. Employees’ day to day feedback, innovation and input are required. They need to not only work “in” the business, but “on” the business so that they can provide opportunities for improvement and continual development of processes, systems and procedures. To really embrace DC’s culture, all employees must live by the company’s core values. Their values are professionalism, profit, candour, fun, attitude, leadership not management, unlimited expectations, celebrate success and embrace change. Senior managers are encouraged to lead by example instead of micro managing and all leaders provide regular coaching and mentoring to their teams. DC also has an open door policy which includes access to the directors and to the Head of People. Every staff member is treated with respect, courtesy and strong bonds much like those present in a small family business.

One of DC’s core business strategies is to provide employees with education, training and development on an ongoing basis. The Learning Management System (LMS), is DC’s online tool which is used for training such as induction and refresher modules. If a member of staff wishes to complete relevant externally provided training, a training budget is in place to assist in facilitating these aspirations. Employees are hired at above average industry remuneration rates, whilst employees whose performance is exceptional are approved for remuneration increases beyond the standard. Furthermore, commissions for account managers are uncapped, so should they overachieve on their targets and are paid for their overachievement.

DC encourages healthy lifestyles for all employees by providing a range of wellbeing benefits. Fresh milk and fruit baskets are delivered twice per week and DC also organises weekly team sports of soccer and basketball. In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle, each non-smoking employee is entitled to a “Non-smokers Day” of paid leave. Once a fortnight, employees also have the option of having a DC-funded ten-minute massage.
